First attempts at painting 15mm!

Hi Folks,

Andy here with an update on painting my first Flames of War and also first 15mm scale models.

I had originally bought the Open Fire box on the strength of the US Airbourne plastic models and I particularly love the prone MG teams. However my dilema was that I had never tried painting any models of this size before and I was worried I'd make a hash of my favourite models in the set if I attempted them first. So after buying Easy Company to accompany the Open Fire box I then decided to completely abandon the allies for the time being and start on the Germans.

Zvezda KV1s

Hello chaps,

Winner Dave here, just finished my KV1s.  That's another 10 tanks done, so I've only got the armoured cars (BA-10s), tankodesantniki and the plane then my army is finished.

Volksgrenadiers - Pak 40's and Flak43's

Hi Everyone

Dr Cox Here again with more Volksgrenadiers

Thought that as I painted these 2 platoons together I'd post them together.
Firstly the Pak 40's. As you may remember I did some Pak 40's earlier but with everyone else being in winter kit, I thought I'd do theses too. I initially discussed with Ben just getting the new winter anti tank group and removing the old Pak 40's, but  Ben came through for me with 3 of his own for me to steal!

The Fractured nature of local gaming

Ok this is going to be a slightly different post - please hang on with me here.

I started thinking of this whilst I was playtesting my Panzerjager’s. I managed to get 10 games in, against 10 different opponents, and I was kind of surprised that some of the people I played against were surprised so many other locally played FoW.

I think there are 2 bits of background which are useful to know to begin with, the first is my own introduction to FoW, and by extension wargames. I follow a familiar path, I played 40K as a kid (lots of badly painted, poorly put together metal models in the mid 90’s) I stopped in my teens, and rediscovered it in my early 20’s.

Soviet Pulyemyetno-Artillyeriyskiy List Discussion

Hello All, I'd like to introduce the last addition to the Breakthrough Assault Team, Dr. Alex. He'll be bring his own brand of "saying as it is" humour. Well thats enough from me, I'll leave you in the capable hands of Alex.

Hi everyone, I'm Dr Alex.

I'm both everything Dr Cox is not and someone who Ben has been harassing to do some blogs for a while.

I only started playing flames of war a year ago (ish) and am still trying out things to see what I like. I have been using a Strelkovy Batalon mainly but have been getting a bit bored and flicking through Red Bear looking for other options.

The one which jumped out as completely different is the Pulyemyetno-Artillyeriyskiv, which is a fortified company of large guns and HMG's. I like large guns and HMG's and in 2nd edition Epic (back when epic was epic)  one of my favourite ways to play was with the fortification rules in the Space Marine Battles Book.

A Beginners Perspective

Hello All,

I'd like to introduce the latest addition to the Breakthrough Assault Team, Andy Croft from the Fully Painted 40k Blog. I'll leave the rest of the talking to Andy.

Hello All,

Firstly I'd like to quickly introduce myself. My name is Andy and I've been wargaming and painting on and off for about 15 years now. Up until recently this has revolved entirely around Warhammer 40K and my main interest has always been the modelling and painting side of the hobby, with gaming being a more of a side effect of collecting models. However recently I've found that many of releases from GW have unfortunately have failed to inspire me and it slowly dawned on me that I should perhaps just try something new.

Its probably been about 3 years now since I saw Ben's first FoW models and I loved them. They're not the most detailed models in the world, sculpting in 15mm just doesn't lend itself to that. What interested me instead was the balance between nice looking models and the ability to paint whole armies in a reasonable time frame. Now I know there are some people out there who can knock out 28mm armies in no time at all. Others who can consistently paint each new model they buy and over time build very nice well painted armies (thats you Adam!). Then there are people like me who buy lots of models, slowly paint some of them but then get distracted and buy a load more. The result being boxes and boxes of models either undercoated, half painted or in some cases mdoel which never even made it off the sprue. The only consolation is that I know I'm not alone!

The Drawer of Shame!

Schwerepanzerjägerkompanie List Review

Schwere Panzerjägerkompanie

Hey everyone another article for you to chew over.

So after part 1 the discussion of the list, I thought I'd do a review of having played these guys.

So far they've played against a British Rifle Company, FJ Infantry, Soviet Fortified List, 11th Armoured, U.S 7th Armoured, StuG Battery, Panzer Lehr and British armour (usually 1750 points, but one 1250 and one 2K)

AAR - Schwerepanzerjager vs Irish Guards - No Retreat

So I've a slightly different game for you all today.

I'd agreed a game with a local player down the club for an attempt to recreate XXX core racing up Hell's highway.

For this Kev choose an Irish guard list, I decided to give my Jagdpanthers their last game (for the time being) we worked decided before hand on 'hold the line' with my forces defending.

Irish Guard Sherman Platoon

Hello All

Ben here with my latest platoon painted up for my Market Garden US Para Army. This platoon was made with the Sherman Armoured Platoon Box BBX08, plus an extra Firefly blister to get the second Firefly. I went for the box set as I had a lot of trouble with putting the Battlefront plastic together and I thought the individual sculpted hulls looked very nice.

Soviet Matilda IIs

Good evening folks,

My (Winner Dave) next task in my all new Russian mid-war army was the Matildas.

These bad boys come from Zvezda, are are apparently snap together.  Well naturally I used glue.  In terms of a model I quite like them.  If it hadn't have been for the T-70s I'd like them more than I do, but the T-70s have set a new standard in my mind.

These Matildas were easy to put together, there is no denying that, but I found the clean up a right chore.

On to's the end result

Tale of Winter Gamers - Final Report - 25th Panzergrenadierkompanie

Well readers this is it, after 5 months, I've finished my ToWG project.

My only objective this month was my Panthers, I'd changed my initial list where I had 4, to only 3 but that meant I would be able to take the Flampanzers, which was pretty iconic for operation Nordwind
